Couples Counseling

Couple Walking Outdoors

Relationships don’t fall apart because people don’t care. They fall apart because patterns take over — communication breaks down, trust gets strained, and both partners start protecting themselves in ways that create more distance than connection.

What We Might Explore in Counseling

The cycle you keep getting stuck in (pursuit, withdrawal, shutdown, escalation) and what it’s protecting for each of you

Communication patterns that lead to misunderstanding, conflict, or emotional distance

Trust ruptures, including rebuilding after betrayal or emotional disconnection

How attachment styles show up in your relationship and shape your reactions to each other

Unspoken needs, expectations, and fears that sit underneath recurring conflict

Repair after hard conversations, arguments, or periods of emotional distance

The impact of grief, loss, trauma, or major life transitions on your relationship

Decisions about the future of the relationship when things feel uncertain or stuck

Rebuilding emotional safety, intimacy, and connection in a way that feels sustainable

My Approach to Couples Counseling

I view relationship struggles through a pattern lens, not a blame lens — we focus on what’s happening between you, not who is “the problem”'

I use attachment theory to help you understand the deeper emotional needs driving conflict, distance, or reactivity

I integrate the Gottman Method to build practical tools for communication, repair, and trust-building that you can actually use outside of sessions

I take a trauma-informed approach, meaning we move at a pace that respects each partner’s nervous system, history, and emotional capacity

I help you slow down reactive cycles so you can see what’s happening underneath the arguments and silence

I hold space for both partners’ experiences without forcing alignment, minimizing pain, or rushing resolution

I focus on helping you move from reaction → understanding → intentional response

I prioritize emotional safety in the room so difficult conversations can actually be explored, not avoided or escalated

My goal is not to decide your outcome, but to help you gain clarity, connection, and choice in how you move forward

At Unapologetic Counseling & Wellness, I operate as a private pay practice. My session rate is $130 per couples counseling session.

This model allows us to keep the focus where it belongs — on your care, not insurance limitations. It means no required diagnosis for approval, no session caps, and no outside interference in the direction or depth of your therapy. You and your work are not filtered through a system that wasn’t designed for your lived experience.

While I do not bill insurance directly, I can provide a superbill upon request. A superbill is a detailed receipt that you may submit to your insurance provider for possible out-of-network reimbursement, depending on your plan’s coverage.

If you plan to use this option, I recommend contacting your insurance company ahead of time to understand your out-of-network mental health benefits, as coverage varies widely.
